Emotional Mirror
Emotional Mirror is an autobiographical mixed-media oil painting about reflection. The artist and her dogs peer into a button-framed mirror. The wall behind the artist as seen through the world of the mirror is bold, bright, and rhythmic. The wall surrounding the mirror is black.
Within the reflection, the artist rests her head against her folded hands, obscuring her mouth, as she stares directly at the viewer. All communications are conveyed through the eyes.
The viewer is forced to experience this piece through this disorienting perspective of the artist. The viewer is able to the back of both dog heads as they peer into the mirror, as well the mirror’s reflection. One dog’s reflection impossibly breaks this reflection, by turning slightly and appearing in only black and white.
Within the reflection, the artist rests her head against her hands and stares directly at the viewer, which serves dually as another version of herself. Her hands fold to cover her mouth, and all communications are through the eyes.
