Texas Hold'em
Texas Hold’em is an imaginative autobiographical work about a losing poker hand. The dog on the left sits proudly, engaging the viewer and welcoming them into the scene. The artist models herself as the featured figure. The figure’s glass is empty, her hand exposed, her expression neutral, her posturing seductively submissive. She is giving all, yet exhausted and detached. The dog on the right peers outward with a questioning look, asking herself and the viewer to reflect on the cost of winning. It takes place in a disorienting liminal space.

About the details…
The painting features real leather and metal 3D collars that are sewn through the canvas. The empty glass is painted with oil and layered with resin. The textured fabric of the figure’s dress is rendered using oil pastels. The playing cards are from a deck. The cards secretly line the sides of the canvas on its stretcher bars as well.
